Beauty. Emotion. Wonder. Story. Identity. Documentation. The list could go on forever. These are just a few of the reasons people take photos. I have used them all. There is beauty everywhere it is easy to capture. Emotion is a harder thing. People tend to hide the more interesting ones. Wonder. You almost have to travel to that. Or be far removed from the subject. Few people express wonder about things they see every day. Story is probably one of the more fun things to shoot. They say every image tells a story. This may be true, but most images hide theirs pretty well. Some people shoot to capture their identity, their self, their soul. A self portrait tells the viewer what the photographer wants others to think of them, not so much who the photographer is. Odd, since that is normally what the photographer is trying to show. But none of us can see ourselves for who we really are. And of course we all shoot for documentation reasons. "Look there's the kid's birthday. There is the vacation I took." All of these will be shown somewhere in your exploarations of this site. Either in the slideshows above or on the blog. I invite you to explore.
